Jeff Smith's Late Night Marathon for Truth

A few automated phone calls have been circulating around St. Louis. One of them makes up several accusations about Jeff and another even has a person impersonating Jeff.

These calls are composed of mistruths and outright lies about Jeff's character, our campaign, and the issues. We do not know who has sanctioned these calls, but it is shameful that a few individuals have attempted to stain an exciting race with the worst that politics has to offer.

In response, the Jeff Smith Team did what we do best: grassroots mobilization. Three days before the election and completely unanticipated, our agile campaign staff organized a response in a matter of minutes. We launched our entire team, including Jeff, into the city at 9 pm to carpet the city in flyers. The flyers simply stated that these calls were never approved by Jeff Smith 2006 and that our campaign is based on person-to-person contact, not person-to-machine.

Nightfall posed little hindrance to the Jeff Smith Army as we set out into the streets and neighborhoods to explain the real truth to the citizens of St. Louis. In just four hours:

1. 40,000 flyers dropped by 20 people
2. Almost every home in 35 precincts covered
3. Miles and miles of city streets walked (or ran)
4. Tens of thousands of voters informed about the truth
5. Many calories burned

These negative attacks clearly failed, instead bringing out the best in our campaign. Our positive response to the slandering and lying of our opponents reflects our earlier promise to not conduct a negative race. Our response was quick but well thought out. Our staff believed so much in Jeff's cause that we were willing to set forth into the streets at night after 10 hours

of canvassing to get the truth out to St. Louisans. We used our most formidable weapon, personal door-to-door contact, to defeat an opposition that relied on impersonal machinery to propagate mistruths.

Our response yesterday also reflects that when in office, Jeff and his team will be constantly be energized and thinking on their feet, giving us a unique ability to arrive at innovative and positive solutions to any political issue that arrives at our door (or phone).

We encourage you to email Jeffsmith2006@gmail.com if you have further questions about the attacks, and we thank you for receiving even more of our literature at your doorstep. In the last few days of the campaign, we hope that these negative attacks reveal that we strive to put an honest and energetic person into public office who will not give in to dirty politics.

An exhausted and sweaty Jeff Smith arrived back at the office at 12:30 a.m.
with a grin on his face saying, "I needed the exercise..."
